Children and young people were consulted for the project on the Windmill Park Estate in the borough of Ealing, which includes a natural play area, an adventure playground and a bespoke youth shelter.
Toddlers from the estate's nursery and children from its play scheme visited a variety of playgrounds before creating sketches, which were then used to design the play areas. Teenagers from the estate decided to create a bespoke youth shelter and decorated it themselves.
The project was a collaboration between Groundwork London and the Windmill Park Consortium of Partners, which includes social landlords and community representatives.
Fran Davies, project manager at Groundwork UK, said: "This project has allowed us to really push the boundaries of design."
