Since 2005 the National Youth Agency (NYA) has had the power to appoint the trustees of Youth Access. In recent years this has meant that the board of both the NYA and Youth Access were the same individuals.
Following a review of governance arrangements, it has been decided to set up a new board to take over responsibilities from September this year. The new body will comprise a chairman, two trustees who also act as trustees for the NYA, and a further two trustees.
"This is a really positive step that will benefit both organisations" said NYA chief executive Fiona Blacke. "Strengthening its governance at this time makes good sense for Youth Access when, in common with all charities, it is looking to address its long-term funding requirements.
