It is a "guide to induction for newly appointed counsellors in youth information, advice and counselling services".
The guide comes out of Youth Access's 2008 Counselling Workforce Development Project, which mapped the UK youth counselling workforce and identified its training wishlist, including a request for a national induction process for local providers of youth counselling. In response, over 20 contributors from Youth Access member agencies put their heads together to produce this resource.
A mixture of information and exercises, the guide's five chapters cover orientation; core values and principles of working with young people; communicating and engaging with young people; managing counselling practice and working in the One Children and Young People's Workforce.
