National Youth Agency: Updated standards framework for participation published

1 min read
A revised and updated version of Hear by Right, the National Youth Agency's standards framework for the participation of children and young people, has been published.

Hear by Right offers tried and tested standards for organisations across the statutory and voluntary sector to assess and improve their practice and policy. It is based on a model of organisational change that includes shared values, strategies and styles of leadership. Organisations assess where they are across three levels - emerging, established and advanced.

The new edition draws on what the agency has learned to help establish children and young people's participation as a right, built in not bolted on, to improve services and outcomes. It offers clear ways of using the resource to safeguard against tokenism by having key indicators in place supported by evidence from children and young people of what's changing in an organisation as a result and what's changed for children and young people themselves.
