National Youth Agency: Development of vocational qualifications for youth work

1 min read
The National Youth Agency has issued an update on its work on the development of vocational qualifications for youth work.

Working closely with youth work organisations ETS Wales and NSETS Ireland, the agency is supporting the youth work sector across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to review and revise qualifications against the 2008 National Occupational Standards and establish qualifications that are fit for purpose.

The first phase of the work involves working with currently approved awarding bodies on the development of units for inclusion on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) that can combine to build into youth support work qualifications, reflecting the needs of the youth work sector in England.

Phase two will see a draft strategy with initial guidance for the specification process developed, followed by a detailed specification, including unit descriptors written within a QCF framework, in phase three. The final phase of the work will see the development of an agreed monitoring process to satisfy requirements for continued Joint Negotiating Committee endorsement.
