My Week - One rule for MPs, another for children

1 min read
Monday: I'm on a brief tour of a pocket of the south west of Hampshire - one of our small urban areas where the deprivation is well hidden but profound.

I visit two special schools and an innovative "shop front" for an early intervention team. The special schools are merging to incorporate a new building programme. They face a tough few years of change but seem to share a determined focus on what those changes will deliver for their pupils and families. It leaves me pondering how far we still have to go to develop consistent and coherent early intervention.

Wednesday: Spend the day in Hampshire considering the local area agreement and then taking feedback on our Comprehensive Area Assessment. Both processes illustrate the complexity of knitting together public services - and then measuring their success. These sessions mean I arrive very late for the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) conference in Manchester.
