Monday: First day back from leave. Before we left I reached an agreement, after protracted negotiations that would have impressed Acas, which would allow me 15 minutes' use of my Blackberry each day.

Little did I realise that we were spending the week in the only part of the UK that appears to have been declared a Blackberry-free zone. No mobile coverage for five days. But I forget the number of times my excitable "bluenosed" fellow YOT manager reminds me that his team, Birmingham City, are away at Tottenham on Saturday while my team are travelling to the mighty Doncaster. I remind him, however, that we, Cardiff City, are top of the league (albeit the Championship).
