Friday: A ministerial shuffle. Looks like I've lost my bet on Jack Straw taking over as Children's Secretary.

Monday: It's the Association of YOT Managers' AGM today and tomorrow. A lot's happened since we were last here. In 2008 we hadn't voted on moving forward with a new case management service - now we're demonstrating the initial "proof of concept" with excellent feedback.

A long day adjourns to the Mucky Duck where the discussion takes a different turn. It's become common practice to wind down by indulging in a "lookey-likey" competition. This year's AGM has been joined by Bilbo Baggins, Buzz Lightyear and Bob Carolgees - but no sign yet of his puppet Spit-the-Dog!

Tuesday: Fascinating presentation on the speech, language and communication needs of young people in the criminal justice system, which follows last year's Bercow Review. Clearly an area that needs greater investment. More than 60 per cent of young offenders have a significant learning disability and more than one-third have speaking and listening skills below those expected from a five-year-old. Yet they have almost no access to speech and language therapy.
