My life - Wesley Woodcock, 16, Rugby

Some fellow students and I joined the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) for a debate.

The event was held at the Hilton hotel in Warwick and my day began by arriving and mixing with different people over coffee while waiting for my headmaster to arrive. Little did I know that he was, in fact, waiting around the corner talking with other ASCL members.

I eventually found him and was invited into a meeting complete with jellybean machines. The meeting was interesting to watch and was similar to a student council meeting but slightly more civilised - yet with more laughter and, of course, sweets.

After the meeting I chaired a debate on student voice. Many people put points forward and we answered questions based on personal experiences. We finished with comments and asked for a vote. Every member except one agreed that student councils should not be compulsory and should be allowed to go at their own pace.
