Multi-agency working: Hughes launches managerial advice

Children's minister Beverley Hughes launched revised guidance to help managers lead multi-agency teams last week.

Announcing Championing Children at a 4Children conference, Hughes said:"None of (the Every Child Matters reforms) can happen without goodleadership. Championing Children tries to isolate what is important anddistinctive about managers of multi-agency teams."

The guidance updates draft advice put out by the Department forEducation and Skills in July 2005 and sets out the skills and knowledgethe department says managers of multi-agency children's teams need.

Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, said that the guidancewould help managers, but noted that practitioners want "joined-uptraining and qualifications".
