Motoring

If I were in charge of the motoring system in England, I would start by looking at the facts about how people are affected by motoring. Due to the large number of accidents that occur on our roads every year, more needs to be provided in the way of education and training for young people.

I would go about this by offering basic motoring education in schools, mainly for young people around the driving age of 17, and then helping them to prepare for learning to drive with support for lessons and knowledge about the Highway Code.

I believe 17 is the correct age to allow young people to start driving, but restrictions should apply in the same way that they do for motorcycles. For example, a young driver should have to pass their test and then for the first 12 months only be allowed to drive a single vehicle that does not exceed an engine size of one litre.
