MINISTER'S QUESTION TIME: Margaret Hodge, Minister for children, young people and families

1 min read
What attributes will be important for the proposed children's commissioner?

It is easy to hear what children and young people are saying. It is harder to listen properly and understand their feelings, so it is vital that whoever is appointed is good at listening. The commissioner must meet and talk to children to get a real understanding of the issues. That way, he or she will gain young people's respect and trust. Children and young people will be involved in recruiting the right person for the job.

The commissioner must be a voice for all children. He or she will therefore need to be a successful advocate for children's views in adult settings.
