Mental Health: Counselling teams need more support

The survey, conducted by youth advice membership organisation Youth Access, asked member organisations about links with CAMHS.

Of the 77 responding organisations, 39 per cent had few or no links. Although 28 per cent said they received referrals from statutory mental health services, only nine per cent said they received funding from them.

Barbara Rayment, Youth Access director, said: "There's no policy that says counselling should be supported financially, so it just falls through the gap."

The organisation will use the findings to inform workshops for member organisations. It will also run an event for CAMHS commissioning staff.
