London's youth services to get 79m pound investment injection

1 min read Youth Work
Services for young people across London are to receive a multi-million pound cash boost.

A total of £79m is to be pumped into youth services across the capital's 33 boroughs as part of the London Youth Offer, launched by London mayor Ken Livingstone and children's minister Beverley Hughes last week.

The London boroughs each get a share of £73m, which will be spread over a three-year period starting in April 2008.

The remaining £6m will be used to create a London-wide Innovation and Development Fund that will help groups and individuals improve services for the capital's teenagers.

"This funding will begin to reverse the decline of facilities for young people in the capital," said Livingstone.

Back in October, Livingstone outlined his plans for a £60m youth offer but since then the Department for Children, Schools and Families has stumped up a further £19m towards the programme.
