The funding, released through Sadiq Khan’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), will provide support for students in pupil referral units (PRUs), those at risk of exclusion or leaving education and those at risk from criminal gangs.

The package will deliver one-to-one mentoring support for young people with complex needs in the capital’s PRUs, Khan said.

Funding for the new mentoring scheme, aimed at keeping young people on track with education and career choices, will be available in all 32 London boroughs.

The City Hall funding will also provide career mentoring in response to concerns raised over year 11 pupils’ access to further education, training or employment.
