Liverpool offers counselling in wake of youth club stabbing

1 min read Youth Justice Youth Work
Specialist counselling services have been set up to help young people affected by a stabbing outside a youth club last week.

Joseph Lappin, 16, was murdered in front of young people outside the Shrewsbury House Youth Club in the Everton area of Liverpool, on 20 October.

Stuart Smith, director of children's services at Liverpool City Council, said that young people who had been at the club the night the stabbings took place had been offered targeted counselling services by the council.

Trained counselling and bereavement staff from Liverpool Primary Care Trust have been seconded to the Youth Personal Advisory Service to create a team aimed at dealing with the aftermath of the crime.

Young people in the city who may be affected by the stabbings have been given a password to quote when they call, meaning they can be fast-tracked to the team to receive the best support.
