The as-yet-unnamed project is run by southeast London's Metro Centre and backed by 60,000 from the Greenwich Drug Action Team. The funds will keep the project going for 18 months.
Tim Franks, youth team leader at the centre, said: "There are high rates of attempted suicide, self-harm, drug and alcohol problems among the young people who use our service.
"The project will look at the needs of LGB people around these issues.
Initially it will focus on people using our service, but we then want to expand beyond that."
