LGB: Energise! event to look at under-16s

1 min read

The National Network, a body for those working with LGB young people, will hold its Energise! event in Manchester on 10 July. The conference includes workshops on bullying, child protection and rural workers as well as work with under-16s.

While most LGB groups do not advise under-16s, the London-based Project for Advoc-acy, Counselling and Education (PACE) has an open-door policy.

PACE youth work manager Pete Algacs, who will be speaking at Energise!, said: "Although our services go up to age 25, our youngest client was 12. But 12- to 13-year-olds going to a service with 25-year-olds does pose problems. Most of our literature is aimed at adults." Algacs added: "Parents also may not know their child is gay, so we are stuck in a dilemma."
