But by focusing his crusade on the suggestion that this system pushes students towards vocational subjects, he is missing the real problem here.
The more vocational options now available to young people, including diplomas, apprenticeships and Asdan courses, encourage students to follow a more personalised path, focused on their ongoing development, rather than simply training them to give the correct answers in exams. If the league tables are "skewed", it's because their attempt to quantify educational success is both unrealistic and unhelpful in creating an educational system that meets the diverse and multi-faceted needs of young people today.
