Letters: OUTREACH WORK IS ESSENTIAL

1 min read Letters
The Conservatives intend to "scrap outreach workers" in order to fund more health visitors (CYP Now, 15-21 October).

I am not sure what has led them to this glib dismissal of a group of workers who in my opinion are the lifeblood of children's centres, but I feel certain that health visitors would not fulfil this crucial role.

Skilled family outreach workers are the people who build a rapport with communities and support families to utilise their strengths and develop resilience. They are the workers who engage the so-called "hard-to-reach" families. They do this through a great deal of skill, persistence, hard work and not giving up on families easily. We have endless examples of how family support (outreach) workers have supported families through significant and positive life changes.
