Letters: MORE HEALTH VISITORS NEEDED

1 min read Letters
It is positive that the Department of Health's study looking at the needs of parents between five and eight months (cypnow.co.uk, 2 November) reinforces the Unite campaign demanding an increase in health visitor numbers.

Recently, Unite pinpointed some trusts in London where parents were having to wait for up to four months to be seen once by a health visitor. We also regularly receive reports from our members that parents are attending clinics where there are in excess of 50 parents and children being seen in the space of a 90-minute clinic - an average of a 108-second consultation per family.

Our members are optimistic about the commitments from both the Health Secretary and the Children's Secretary to increase the number of health visitors. However, until parents see this in their own neighbourhoods the rhetoric will not equal reality.
