Letters: Asbos are not the answer

My first attendance at the Labour Party conference in Brighton, on 26 September, was to attend a fringe meeting organised by The Howard League for Penal Reform, in my capacity as a trustee.

Guest speaker was the Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith QC, and, following his address, I talked to him about my concerns regarding the imprisonment of vulnerable offenders.

My only child Sarah, 18, died in January 2003 while in the "care" of Styal Young Offender Institution in Cheshire.
