FAR FROM BEING 'FERAL'

It's unfair to tarnish all of us with the same brush. My experience is that young people in Newham are dedicated and enthusiastic citizens who care about their borough.

In Newham, the council introduced a Young Mayor scheme in 2007 and last month I was elected. More than 43 per cent of young people voted. That's more than the turnout at council elections.

Young people make up more than 50 per cent of those signed up to the 3,000-strong Newham Volunteers. They often make the most dedicated volunteers and regularly make a difference to their borough.

Joshua Adejokun, Young Mayor of Newham
