Letter: Religious assemblies in schools

The question of enforcing religious assemblies in schools is difficult (Children Now, 21-27 June). There are schools that hold such assemblies and do not need enforcement. But there are many that do not.

There are three reasons why schools don't do religious assemblies. Thefirst is difficulty in finding the time. Second, it is not alwayspossible to get the whole school together in one place. Thirdly, thoseresponsible for holding religious assemblies often do not have religiousconvictions themselves.

I believe that if local churches could offer people with religiousconvictions to take assemblies it would help schools deliver them.
