Letter: Paper doesn't go far enough

1 min read
We believe that the Government's delivery plan for the Public Health White Paper does not go far enough.

We welcome and support many of the initiatives that it has announced, but action is needed now in order to address many of the key public health issues that are at crisis point.

We are disappointed that the Government did not restrict the advertising and promotion to children of unhealthy foods immediately. Instead it is waiting for the introduction of a voluntary code, which is planned for January 2006.

There is also no mention of the higher cost of healthy eating and we would like to have seen the Government produce an action plan to make healthy food cheaper and to make it more accessible.
