Letter: Drug education teachers

I would like to correct an impression conveyed inadvertently in the article "Teachers lack necessary training" (Children Now, 27 July-2 August).

I am quoted as saying the report showed that drug education often workedbest when delivered by a specialist. It should be emphasised that thisrefers to specialist teachers, not external contributors.

Overall the report suggests most schools are doing a good job withrespect to drug education, although there is a need for a greateremphasis on alcohol and tobacco. There is also a need for a greateremphasis on the assessment of pupils' needs and learning.
