Letter: Asylum-seeking children

Children's charity NCH is pleased that the Government supports the continued reviews of safeguarding, as we have found them to be a useful and thorough resource for looking at safeguarding across a wide range of settings (Children Now, 15-21 March).

Although the Government has generally accepted and responded to themajority of the recommendations, NCH is particularly concerned at itsrejection of the recommendation in response to immigrant children. NCH'swork with child asylum seekers reveals them to be an acutely vulnerablegroup.

We know children dip in and out of regulated and unregulated services'so why undermine the effectiveness of safeguarding by rejecting therecommendation relating to unregulated services?

Shaun Kelly, safeguarding manager, NCH.
