The removal of the means test, which has already happened in NorthernIreland, is significant for parents of disabled children living inprivate housing.
We are also expecting a Government announcement on the Englishsituation, where the means test is still in place. The abolition inWales is a timely reminder that the situation faced by the parents ofdisabled children is the same wherever they are and we hope theGovernment in England will recognise this.
Since Scotland, unlike the rest of the UK, does not have a disabledfacilities grant it is just England where parents with disabled childrenare means tested for support. By ending the means test the Governmentwill ensure more parents will be able to access the grant and will beable to provide their children with a suitable home without needing toget into significant debt.
