LEISURE: Sedgefield to get mobile skate park

Other mobile skate parks can take two days to set up. But the facility at Sedgefield, in County Durham, can arrive in its special truck and be ready for skateboarders within 30 minutes.

The centrepiece of the park is what is claimed to be the first trailer-mounted, hydraulically operated half-pipe in the UK.

Vaughan Britton, a modern apprentice in the council's leisure services department, said: "As a skateboarder myself, I can safely say this is a much-needed facility.

"A skate park provides a rare opportunity to connect with typically hard to reach youth because, when given the chance, children prove to be friendly, innovative and intelligent, with plenty to offer."
