What changes have been made to the mandate of the children's commissioner?
Part six of the Children and Families Act, which came into force today (1 April), will usher in significant changes to the mandate and role of England's children's commissioner. The children's commissioner was originally created by the Children Act 2004, with a mandate to promote the views of children and young people. The Children and Families Act instead sets out that the primary function of the commissioner is "promoting and protecting the rights of children in England", and this explicitly includes "promoting awareness of the views and interests of children in England".
