2 mins read Children's rights Legal
The Human Rights Act has been pivotal in protecting children against human rights abuses and upholding freedoms for almost two decades.

On 9 November 2018 it will be 20 years since the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) was given Royal Assent. The Human Rights Act "gives further effect" to rights and freedoms guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR). This means that:

Rights contained in the ECHR include (among others) the right to life; the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment; protection against slavery and forced labour; the right to liberty and freedom; the right to a fair trial/hearing and no punishment without law; respect for private and family life; freedom of thought, religion and belief; the right to an education and the right to free elections.
