Location: Court of Appeal
Judges: Lady Justice Arden, Lord Justice McFarlane, Lord Justice McCombe
The case concerned an application for permission to appeal, which was brought by the mother of two children (aged three and 18 months), following the decision to place the children with the paternal grandparents under a special guardianship order.
The issue for the judge was to determine the long-term placement of the two children and the options, in short terms, were either for the children to remain living with their mother in a shared parenting arrangement in which she was assisted by her own grandmother (the children's great-grandmother) or for the children to move to take up full-time residence with their paternal grandparents, under a special guardianship order. The judge chose the latter option and it is against that decision that the mother appealed.
