In September 2012, five members of the Al-Hilli family were travelling in France by car when they were attacked by a gunman. All three adults in the car were killed (the parents of Zainab and Zeena, and their grandmother). Both children recovered and were taken into care upon their return to England. This case concerned the media reporting of care proceedings in a case that has garnered significant media attention.
In considering whether to allow reporting, Baker J summarised that:
