Children and families will lose out under plans to reform civil legal aid, a senior family lawyer has warned.
David Emmerson, chair of Resolution's legal aid committee, said he was "fundamentally against" a move by the Department for Constitutional Affairs to scrap the current legal aid system for family law and replace three levels of funding with one.
The department will establish a pilot scheme for the new level of funding, called Family Help.
The maximum amount of monthly disposable income that people can have to qualify for legal aid in family cases will be 632, compared to 707 under current arrangements.
