In a new report, Family Misfortunes, the charity claims some areas of the country are family law "advice deserts".
The survey of more than 200 bureaux said the problem was particularly serious in the area of family law because people frequently needed an urgent injunction to prevent a violent spouse or parent from harming them or their children.
In some areas of the country, there were no family law legal aid services, it said. In other areas, there was just one publicly funded family law solicitor leading to a potential conflict of interest where more than one party in a domestic violence or divorce case sought help.
