Leeds gets 11m to improve offering

Early Years
A local authority is gearing up to transform its early years services after an 11m cash boost from the government.

The money from the Department for Children, Schools and Families will be put into improving the quality of early years environments. Play areas, physical activity and ICT resources will be investment priorities for Leeds City Council.

The majority of funding will be given to private and voluntary sector nurseries in the city. Extended services will also get £3m for childcare and after-school activities.

Councillor Richard Harker, board member for early years, said: "This is a significant investment, which means the quality of early education and childcare on offer will be greatly improved."
