LEARNING DISABILITIES: South Asian youths not helped enough

Funded by The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, the Aasha research project found that the take-up of higher education within the group was especially low.

Researchers worked closely with 95 young people to understand their concerns.

Barriers included a lack of workers from a similar background, a lack of social interaction with peers and a lack of support.

Skill is running five half-day events around the UK to disseminate the information. Call Sally Thompson on 020 7450 0647 for details.

Separately, Mencap is running National Learning Disability Week from 16 to 22 June.
