Young people with a learning disability are paired with peer supporters to create a multimedia CD-Rom to demonstrate their lifestyles and ambitions.
The project, funded by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, was unveiled on 19 March after a pilot scheme ran in Birmingham for a year.
Trans-active is run jointly with the University of East London, and is a focus of Mencap's multimedia and learning disability research project at the university.
Claire Brown, project manager, said: "Most teenagers are computer literate but for those who need to explore non-verbal means of communication, Trans-active's screen pictures, symbols and sounds can help."
