Mission: To divert young people away from crime over the summer holidays
Funding: £30,000 from Devon County Council
Kick Around is a three-year programme offering 40 weeks of three-hour sessions of football, initially at locations in Exeter. The programme is yet to start but will be expanded out in years two and three to include other deprived areas in Devon.
The aim is for more than 400 young people aged between 11 and 18 to access one of these courses. The courses are designed to broaden their football skills as well as offering coaching, training and qualifications.
The programme will be open to teenagers referred by the police, youth offending teams and other agencies who work with young people involved in or at risk of offending or antisocial behaviour and to children who may not have the opportunity to access football training elsewhere.
