Keystone and Doddington Green Children's Centres, Welsh House Farm and Bartley Green, Birmingham

1 min read Early Years
What makes them different from other children's centres? They have one workforce, which is shared across both centres. They are about two miles apart.

Why? When Sure Start began there was the Doddington Green Centre in Bartley Green. But it was soon recognised that nearby Welsh House Farm was also a very disadvantaged area and one building could not cover the two communities. So the Keystone centre in Welsh House Farm was built with one programme manager and one set of staff looking after both.

What are the benefits of this method? Staff are shared and both centres can benefit from a larger set of expertise. It is able to take best practice from Doddington Green over to Keystone. By having the staff of two centres to call upon they rarely have to rely on agency staff in the case of sickness or illness.
