Outcomes for children in the first area to undergo integrated inspection are positive, inspectors reported this week.

West Sussex County Council's children's services are judged in the firstpublished results of a joint area review. The county was one of fourareas that have piloted the new inspection arrangements.

The report pays particular attention to joint action by local serviceson behalf of children who are vulnerable to poor outcomes, such as thosein care.

Mike Lee, head of special projects at the council, said: "We've had tochange our mindset from looking at the outputs we make to the effect wehave on young people on the ground."

The inspection mostly supports West Sussex's self-assessment. Achildren's version of the inspection has also been published.
