The centre, which is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, is designed to empower children's trusts and breathe new life into the sector. It promises to provide children's services professionals with an authoritative and comprehensive source of "what works".
Davies, who was previously director of children's services at Telford & Wrekin Council, says: "We all need to understand better what improves outcomes for children and young people and we know the answers are out there, happening all over the country. What the centre will do is bring these sources of effective practice together."
One of the most innovative products the centre plans to offer is a brokering service, dubbed "quid pro quo", which will allow local authorities to exchange expert staff in one area in return for specialists from other authorities. Davies believes the scheme will prove hugely beneficial. "Everyone has something to give and something with which they need help and support."
