Inspection of Sure Start Children's Centres

1 min read

What is it all about? Ofsted is planning to revise the framework for inspecting children’s centres. In order to make inspections “sharper and more focused”, the watchdog is proposing to reduce the number of judgments in inspections and change the way groups of centres that share management are inspected. The proposals are due to be tested using a series of pilot inspections over the next few months. Findings from the pilots, alongside the consultation results, will be used to inform the final framework.

What are the main points? The way in which local authorities deliver services from children’s centres has changed dramatically since they were first introduced. Local authorities are increasingly shifting away from commissioning single centres for a community, with many now “grouping” their centres across a number of communities, using a “hub and spoke” model.
