The Tree House Children's Centre opened two years ago to provide a basefor South East Ipswich Sure Start, which had already been running a raftof outreach and community projects in this deprived part of thetown.

Even though the centre has been operating for a relatively short time,the site had been a focal point of the community for generations as itwas formerly a pub.

Centre manager Sandra Shears says: "This made it easy for planningpermission as it was already a community facility. It also helped whatwe wanted to do as well as it was landmark that was well known to localpeople. We've even kept the bar in place."
