INFORMATION SHARING: Pilot schemes back on track after legal debate

A trailblazer project in Bolton was suspended last month when the local primary care trust refused to continue with the identification, referral and tracking (IRT) scheme after seeking legal advice (YPN, 29 October-4 November, p5).

But at a board meeting last week, Bolton Primary Care Trust opted to rejoin the Bolton Council-led scheme and provide details on children's names, addresses, dates of birth and GPs.

Janet Hutchinson, director of public health at Bolton Primary Care Trust, said: "We had a very vigorous discussion about the project and agreed to share information to create a test version of the database system. It went to a vote in the end.
