Inclusive sports project announced

1 min read Youth Work
London Youth, which runs 400 youth clubs in the capital, has announced details of a sporting project surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games.

Activities will include a community sports festival and a volunteering programme. The project, called Getting Ready, is being funded by the National Sports Foundation, The Worshipful Company of Girdlers and the Football Foundation.

According to a London Youth spokeswoman, attracting a diverse range of young people will be a focus of the activities. "We will work with a very diverse cross-section of Londoners developing activities in ways that make links with youth culture and accommodate the needs of differing interests, ethnicities and genders," she said.

It is hoped it will boost young people's involvement in sport in the long term and even create, "a new generation of community sports coaches and referees," the spokeswoman added.
