Thankfully, the vast majority of parents in the UK are spared the trauma of cheerleading.

But American families are not so lucky. "A bitter row has broken out between parents and a school in the US after a six-year-old girl was kicked out of the cheerleading squad following complaints by her mother about a suggestive chant," reported the Daily Mail.

Jennifer Tesch, from Michigan, took exception to one of the girls' cheers: "Our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shake our booties from left to right." But she said she couldn't believe it when her daughter Kennedy was kicked out of the team. The school's cheerleading coach hit back, describing Tesch as "this lunatic" on a local radio station.
