In the News: Barber cranks up the classical music to keep the pesky kids from his door

A hairdresser has begun playing classical music outside his salon in a bid to drive away teenagers, revealed local newspaper the Hampstead and Highgate Express.

Stavros Konstantinou said he was fed up with pupils from nearby Haverstock School - where the Miliband brothers spent their teenage years — from congregating outside his Oskar Pink salon in Chalk Farm.

"Rather than opting for the mosquito alarm, which emits a piercing noise that only young people can hear, he decided to play some regular music that only older people seem to like," said the paper.

And the friendly snipper is convinced the strategy is working. "I started playing classical music last week and within a few minutes the kids were gone. I think they find it uncool," he said.

But Haverstock head teacher John Dowd doubted he would succeed. "Young people are receptive to good quality music too," he said.
