Ofsted has said children's centres and extended schools must improve monitoring and evaluation of services in a major progress report published last month.

The education watchdog found services were not always well co-ordinated and that more needs to be done to attract families that don't already use them. www.ofsted.gov.uk

Extended schools staff are among those invited to a national conference on working with children who are not in education. The Capita event is on 26 February in London. www.capitaconferences.co.uk

Together for Children has published a series of resources to help boost links between children's centres and Jobcentre Plus. www.childrens-centres.org.uk

Groups of primary and secondary schools in 25 local authority areas will be testing ways of delivering better support to children with mental health problems. The government's Targeted Mental Health in Schools project will begin work in April this year.
