Local authorities are to get extra help to develop support for early years professionals.

The Children's Workforce Development Council has announced a partnership between learning charity ContinYou and education provider Serco to work with councils in England. www.continyou.org.uk

Education and health professionals are being urged to contribute to a review of specialist provision for children with speech and language difficulties. A website for the review is at www.dcsf.gov.uk/bercowreview

Sure Start providers in the east of England have reduced the amount of services commissioned from voluntary groups by 70 per cent since the introduction of children's centres, according to a report by Children Matters East and VCS Engage. www.vcsengage.org.uk

Local authority and voluntary sector representatives have developed a series of resources for rural children's centres. They can be downloaded from the "rural" section of the Together For Children website at www.childrens-centres.co.uk
